Applerigg’s journey began over a century ago with the pioneering approach of the Provincial Insurance Company.

A path that four generations and a number of spirited personalities later – has led to the formation of Applerigg.

Oliver Sargent

– Non-Executive Chairman, Applerigg

A fifth-generation member of the Scott family, Oliver became Chairman of Applerigg in June 2020. Oliver has been a serial entrepreneur in healthcare, backed by venture capital investors. As Founder and CEO, he built and operated psychiatric hospitals and specialist care homes before exits in 2012, 2014 and 2018.

He remains a non-executive director of Albion Care Communities, a group of high-end, new-build care homes, which he co-founded in 2014 and ran as CEO until 2018. Oliver began his career as a doctor, working in Guy’s and St Thomas’s Hospitals in London and the Royal Perth Hospital in Western Australia.

Oliver has a BSc in Psychology from Kings University College, London and an MBBS from Kings Medical School, London.

Christopher Scott

– Non-Executive Director, Applerigg

Christopher Scott is a former director of his family’s Provincial Group businesses and of Sand Aire Limited, and is a non-executive director of Applerigg.

He worked at Grindlays Bank from 1978 to 1988, mainly in the international corporate and sovereign financing departments. In 1988 he joined Sumitomo Bank (later The Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation) in London, finishing there as General Manager of the London Structured Finance Department in 2006.

He read Natural Sciences at Trinity College, Cambridge, and has an MBA from INSEAD.

Mark Fuller

– Non-Executive Director, Applerigg

Mark Fuller is currently the Chairman and CEO of Rosc Global.  Previously, he served as the founding Chairman and CEO of Monitor Group, a leading consulting and principal investment firm from 1983 to 2010.

Mark serves on the board of a number of venture investment firms including Four Rivers, IronGate, Miraki Innovation, and the Disruptive Innovation Fund. He has also been a member of the boards of Teach for All, the Asia Institute of Management, the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA), the Forum for Cities in Transition, Value Budget Housing Corporation (India), SKOLKOVO (Moscow Business School), the National Competitiveness Council of Saudi Arabia, and Harvard University’s Mahindra Institute.

Mark was an Assistant Professor of Business Administration at the Harvard Business School and guest lecturer at universities in the USA and UK.  He is the author of numerous books and articles, including Competition in Global Industries (1986), Business As War (2000), and Japan’s Business Renaissance (2005).

Mark graduated from Harvard College with a BA in History, and later received an MBA from Harvard Business School and a JD from Harvard Law School.

Oenone Scott

– Non-Executive Director, Applerigg

Oenone, known as Nonny, is a fifth-generation member of the Scott family and joined Applerigg in March 2024 as a Non-Executive Director.

Nonny started her career as an early employee in an energy-tech startup, where she had a wide range of responsibilities. Three years of working alongside developers sparked her interest in coding, and in 2019 she returned to academia to pursue a masters in research, in Computational Biology, at Imperial College London.

Following this, Nonny was then awarded funding through a Doctoral Training Partnership to pursue a doctorate in computational marine ecology, which she has been completing part-time. She has been part of several teaching initiatives, such as the Brilliant Club, where she designed and delivered a course about the Deep Sea to students in secondary schools. In addition to this, Nonny has been the marketing and technology development lead at a freediving club since late 2023.

Nonny’s interests include environmental science and policy, science communication and outreach. She has been part of her family’s council since 2015, and Chair since 2019.

Katrina Shenton

– Non-Executive Director, Applerigg

Kat is an independent consultant and board director, passionate about fighting climate change and ethical investment. Kat joined the Applerigg Board in June 2022 and is Chair of the Investment Committee.  She is also on the boards of six COIF Charity Funds and is a Special Investment Committee Member for the NEST pension scheme.  

Kat has had a long values-driven career including 10 years at renewable energy company, Solarcentury, before joining Octopus Investments where she invested and managed c£3Bn in renewable energy assets and designed and embedded an ethical and positive impact framework for the £10bn of funds managed by Octopus Investments. Over the years she has held board positions on several energy investment funds, including two Venture Capital Trusts, as well as a start-up and two charities.

Kat has completed the Financial Times Non-Executive Director diploma, the INSEAD Women Leadership Programme, was awarded an MBA with distinction from the London Business School and has a degree in Mathematical Statistics and Operational Research from Exeter University.

David Gudgin

– Chief Executive Officer, Applerigg

David Gudgin, Applerigg’s Chief Executive Officer, has over two decades of experience in investing in high growth, early stage businesses.

After working at the BBC, David became an investor in 1999 when he joined 3i in London. He went on to become lead investor at Foursome, managing an environmental technology fund and a development capital fund. In 2005 David joined Albion Capital where, in 2009, he became Partner, as well as Head of Renewables. At Albion, David raised and invested three institutional Real Asset funds; Albion Care Communities, Albion Community Power and Albion Real Asset Fund.

David joined Applerigg in 2023 and is focused on building new asset-based businesses. David is on the board of Xenia Venues and Glenburnie Lodge.

David has a degree in Economics from Warwick University, and post-graduation he qualified as an ACMA. 

Luke Tonks

– Finance Director, Applerigg

Having joined the Group in 2023, Luke is the Financial Director of Applerigg and the asset-based strategy platform investment companies. Working alongside and (as of 2024) succeeding Bruce Offergelt, Luke has assumed responsibility for the Groups’ finances and has oversight of Group financial strategy and performance.

Prior to joining Applerigg, Luke worked at EY, completing his ACA before moving into industry, working with a number of VC-backed businesses as commercial FD.

Luke graduated from Durham University with a degree in Economics and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).

Aoife McCarthy

– Director, Applerigg

Aoife joined Applerigg in 2023 as an Investment Manager and is focused on investing in asset-based businesses across the UK. She has 8 years’ experience in investment banking having started her career in Credit Suisse’s UK investment banking team in 2016. Aoife sits on the boards of Xenia Venues, Cartmel Care Homes, Brathay Care Communities and Yealand Fund Services.

 

 

Aoife has a degree in Economics and Maths from University College Cork and a Masters in Finance from Warwick Business School.
